As many of you know, you always make a sample and naturally so did I. However, in my excitement I changed a few things to make it easier to sew a large quantity. When you make things to sell, you learn how to do things in stages, At least, that is how I do it.
Yesterday I worked on the pattern and cut out the fabrics. That takes me FOREVER because I have too much fabric. But what seamstress or crafter doesn't right? Well, I have to find the fabric and then find a coordinating color to compliment the main one. Set it aside and then iron the fabric (not all my fabric is stored neatly but we won't go there just now! HA). Then I have to cut it all out and pin everything together. I cut out 14 yesterday and that was enough for one day. I should also mention I wanted to finish my book so that was how I spent most of yesterday morning. Then it was time to cut these babies out!
Today's project was to get these gems all sewn together and to be quite honest that was the fasted part of the day! Since everything was pinned the sewing took about an hour ( and that is including all the thread color changes and winding of bobbins when needed!) The next step was attaching those snaps!
A little background here....I have purchased these plier like contraptions before and tried (VAINLY) to get these snaps to attach to the fabric like they show in the videos and all over social media. So I caved in and purchased them. I waited, rather impatiently I might add, for the order to come in. It finally did and it's ALL the little snap pieces BUT NO TOOL! I check my order and I should have been sent the attachment tool. Well, I just put it off to the side because my full time job (I am a high school reading teacher, that is a story for another blog post!) and my time wasn't my own. I see the order for this set come across my social media sites again and buy it yet AGAIN. This time though, I made triple sure I ordered the tool too.
Now I see the ad for today's sewing project and realize I need to learn how to use these snaps. As I worked through each set of 14 pieces, a lightbulb finally goes off in my head and I think of an even easier way to attach the snaps. (I am going to make a video of it and share it here and on my social media sites this week!) I felt so EMPOWERED!
Are you ready to learn what they are? They are eye glass cases made of fabric. These are just some of the pictures from today. Please go to the page called Eye Glass Case Holder to see all I posted. I hope you like them as much as I do. They can be used for lots of other things too! They can be used for sunglasses, reading glasses, prescription glasses, or even as a stylish accessory to hold pens or small tools. The possibilities are endless, making it an excellent addition to your daily essentials.
HAPPY SEWING!!!!
