This is the second part of my transition series, explaining and adding more rigor to understand how to use transitions. This is a 9 slides activity to include a practice worksheet for your students.
For struggling readers, who may find it challenging to grasp the connections between sentences and paragraphs, transition words provide clear signals about the relationships among different parts of the text. Transition words often hint at the direction a text is taking. For struggling readers, this can be crucial in predicting what comes next, making it easier for them to anticipate the content and reduce uncertainty as they read. Teaching struggling readers how to use transition words effectively contributes to their overall reading comprehension, organizational skills, retention of information, predictive abilities, writing proficiency, and overall engagement with the text.
